Dream a new dream

4Five+ want to positively challenge what you can do and what you THINK you can do. We aim to close the gap that exists in current science and the expectations of society around our demographic. You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream. Remember - you don’t have to be 45+ or female to join us - we welcome the people who support 45+ femmes - corporates, women aspiring to be 45+ (yes!), and men - there is a membership to suit everyone. Learn more about membership options here.

June has seen many highlights for the Collective. We were very excited to take delivery of the kit we designed from escape.cc. It looks gorgeous, feels great, and goes FAST. There have been quite a few requests from the chaps - can we get it in men’s sizing? Peter Hunt (Focused Media) loved the kit so much he made a photo montage of the femmes racing at WCMCC. We hope to release a new round of kit orders later in July to be ready for spring - watch the socials!

4Five+ were active in June, introducing femmes to racing at WCMCC (road) and WACX (cyclocross). Feedback from participants has been very positive - such a lot of fun and warm welcome to the new femmes, and some pretty good results too. Podiums! We hope to see the trial riders continue on their racing journey now the hardest hurdle has been overcome - turning up & pinning on a number for the first time. Kudos!

The first in the 4Five+ seminar series is scheduled for Sunday 25th July, 4-6pm, at The Green Room in North Fremantle. Nutritionist Mel Raybould will provide femmes with information on how to fuel their body for performance and recovery, exploring the nutritional requirements associated with ageing & menopause, as well as the important role food plays in supporting training and race-day demands. The seminar is scheduled to allow you time to practice your fueling strategy in the lead-up to big events like Tour of Margaret River and Cape to Cape later in the year. It will be a great chance to be together to relax and learn while enjoying some light refreshments. Zoom options for those unable to attend in person are being investigated. The seminar will be free for financial members and $15 for non-members - ticket availability will be advertised via the website and facebook page.

Racing and training. We are in the thick of road, cyclocross and MTB seasons, and the ATTA time-triallers are going strong with their winter season. The race menu is loaded between now and November - a curated calendar is available in the Members area of the website, a taster for July included below. Following on from the success of the 4Five+ MTB/Gravel rides led by Alison Dyson in the lead-up to SeVen, we are planning some more regular training rides on the trails to cater for MTB & gravel femmes over the winter months - more news soon!

The 4five+ Committee has been working enthusiastically in the background, and we are excited to announce that Sarah Hunter has joined us in the role of Education, Research & Development. Sarah’s first passion is mountain biking, but she’s just as comfortable on a roadie or TT bike. Sarah has a wide range of skills and expertise: cycling coach; strength & conditioning coach; writer for Bicycling Australia Magazine & Mountain Biking Australia; a degree in mathematics; completed Stacey Sims’ courses Women Are Not Small Men & Menopause for Athletes. Sarah’s expertise and passion will be invaluable as we bring our wish list of exciting initiatives into reality. You can read more about the Committee Members here.

There are certainly exciting times ahead in July - the Tour of Margaret River Squad is taking shape, and there are some ground-breaking research collaborations in the pipeline…but that will have to wait for the next blog.

Enjoy the images below - thanks to all the people behind the camera: Sarah Hunter, Peter Hunt (Focused Media), Mark Uzii, Vanessa Johnson 👏
