ATTAinable goals
One of the iconic challenges of WA Cycling is the ATTA Early Bird Series on the technical Lovekin Drive course in Kings Park. Riders of all abilities take on “the race of truth” early on Tuesday mornings across the summer- from first-timers through to Olympic and Tour de France riders. The Lovekin sausage is book-ended by hot dog turns, requiring bravery on the fast descent, and determination on the climb.
4Five+ enjoyed collaborating with ATTA over the course of the Early Bird Series, with a goal of encouraging and supporting women aged 45+ in their time-trial endeavours. Accredited coaches Sarah Hunter and Deb Kempe kicked off the season with a free TT Masterclass for riders new to TT, working on cornering and pacing skills. We WOmanned the registration desk each round of the Early Bird Series, giving us a great opportunity to hear reports of skills progress and PBs. Mary Capra-Tennant’s big smile as she shared her progress nailing the hot dog turns clipped in was a particular highlight. Thanks to the 4Five+ members who stepped up to run/help on the desk - Deb Kempe, Jodi Earnshaw, Anna Heitz, Angie McRobbie & Vanessa Johnson.
4Five+ sponsored four awards to recognize the outstanding achievements of women aged 45+. The recipients all defy the stereotypes around performance and ageing. We congratulate them on an excellent Early Bird Series, and hope their achievements inspire riders of all ages to continue to participate and perform to the highest level. 4Five+ Committee Member Jodi Earnshaw was on hand to present the recipients with their vouchers at the ATTA Presentation Breakfast. As pictured left to right below:
Most improved (single event) - Margeurite Braeckman
